10 AM @ Codey Arena

All schools were represented except Montclair, Montclair Kimberley Academy, Summit, Pope John, Gloucester Catholic, Bayonne, Don Bosco Prep
Larry Busichio from Columbia and Linda Ionta from Union were introduced to the membership as they would be requesting partnerships and co-ops with Nutley and Jonathan Dayton High Schools.
Gary Farishian presented the financial report along with the dues recommendation. Dues recommendation was presented and approved by the membership at the fall meeting. Dues will remain at $600 and invoices were distributed.
Regular season champions along with cup champions and sportsmanship winners were recognized and applauded by the NJIIHL. It was also repeated that all teams in the McInnis, Kelly and McMullen divisions make the playoffs and only the top eight schools in the Gordon Conference will qualify.
The NJIIHL thanked JAG Physical Therapy for their sponsorship of the hospitality suite at the cup finals. Unfortunately there were over 150 responses from those invited that indicated that they would attend the event however only about 50 showed up. We will consider other options for JAG to remain a sponsor for future cup finals.
Throughout the years’ it has been a difficult talk securing the all-stars to attend an on-ice recognition ceremony and as a result of this struggle, it was agreed that the NJIIHL would no longer invite the all-stars to the cup finals to be recognized.
At the end of the year all-star selection meeting, the coaches selected a “coach of the year” for each division. This recognition is not part or endorsed by the NJIIHL however the membership was surveyed and asked if they would like to add this honor. There was no support for this addition to post season honors.
There was a concern that games this past season needed to be cancelled during the holiday / vacation break due to lack of players who went away for vacation. The timing of these cancellations is problematic to opponents who have enough players to play. In order to deal with this issue, the league scheduler will not schedule any NJIIHL league games during the holiday / Christmas break.
NJIIHL member schools must commit to being able to field a team by the fall meeting. If a member school doesn’t have the numbers to play a varsity schedule, they must make that declaration at the fall meeting.
There was discussion regarding adding awards to recognize those players in the National Division of the Gordon Conference. There was no support for this suggestion.
2018 playoff dates were discussed and revised as follows:…….Seeding Meeting first Wednesday in February, first round played by that Sunday, semifinal round by the following Wednesday, and the finals on the following Friday (2 games) and Saturday (2 games).
There was much discussion regarding co-op programs and after a lengthy debate, requests for approvals were voted upon: Verona / Glen Ridge (18-0 Passed) , West Essex / Caldwell (15-0 Passed), Nutley / Columbia (15-3 Passed). Prior to this meeting the Jonathan Dayton, David Brearley, Union H.S. tri-op was approved electronically by a vote of 28-1.
A tentative realignment proposal was presented by Gary Farishian and much discussion took place regarding alternatives. Currently the first place team in each division moves up and the last place team moves down however this movement can be negated if both teams agree to remain where they are. Governor Livingston recommended that the movement also include the team that wins the cup playoffs. This recommendation was made by Joe Piro and seconded by Pat Gist. Motion was approved however there must be another team that is agreeable to move down to take the place of the cup winner. Any school wishing not to move or if a cup winner desiring a move, must email the league president immediately with that request.
It was recommended that a committee to be formed to review alignment with this new guideline in place and generate a new alignment proposal for 2017-2018. Committee members include Pat Genova, Gary Farishian, Steve Ruggiero. Joe (Nutley), Frank (Millburn), Ann (GL), Ralph (Frisch), Ed (West Orange)
Jack Lally indicated that the three man crew worked well however there was a concern if more games were added with the three official format, it may become a number issue for securing officials. Additionally, fees will remain the same for 2017-2018…varsity $89…..JV….$67.
Scoresheets…….will be discussed at fall meeting.
Codey Arena rink one is currently under construction and the anticipated completion date is September 2017.
League Insurance………is in place however vendor mandates that an anti-harassment, equal opportunity, anti-discrimination statement be included in our constitution. This statement was distributed to the membership and approved for insertion.
All existing NJIIHL officers were approved to remain in the same positions for the 2017-2018 school year. Additionally, a motion was made by Verona and seconded by Nutley to have equal stipends for the four officers of the league. Motion was approved and all four officers will receive identical $1,500 stipends moving forward.
Meeting adjourned at 11:50 AM
